PlayStation Fanboys Beware: Horizon Zero Dawn is a Steam Best-Seller
  • Guerilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn releases on PC on Aug. 7.
  • The action RPG tops Steam’s global best-sellers despite pre-oders going live only yesterday.
  • Horizon’s early success will only embolden Sony to further open up its trove of exclusives to PC players.

Post-apocalyptic open-world dinosaur hunting adventure, Horizon Zero Dawn, arrives on PC on Aug. 7. PlayStation and Guerilla Games announced as much yesterday and in one fell swoop opened up pre-orders over on Steam.

A day later and Horizon Zero Dawn has stormed to the top of the global best-sellers chart on Valve’s digital storefront. It now rubs shoulders with illustrious company such as Doom Eternal, Grand Theft Auto V, and recent Steam addition, Sea of Thieves.

It’s hard to determine the exact number of pre-orders given Steam doesn’t share these. We can nevertheless take this surge of interest, backed by a down payment of real-world dollars, as confirmation that Horizon Zero Dawn’s arrival on PC will be nothing short of a resounding success.

It comes as no surprise – Horizon Zero Dawn is a stellar effort from developer Guerilla Games, and the PC version includes a raft of welcome benefits. Wide-screen support, unlocked frame rates, improved reflections, and dynamic foliage – it’s enough to tempt PS4 owners to double-dip on the PC version.

Horizon Zero Down Paves the Way for More PC Ports

The pre-orders should eradicate any lingering doubts Sony might be nursing ahead of Horizon Zero Dawn’s PC launch. More interestingly for PC players, Sony will be brimming with confidence and encouraged to open up more of the guarded trove of PS4 exclusives. Horizon Zero Dawn’s early success means it’s only a matter of time before Sony ports more acclaimed exclusives.

Sony is genuinely spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing the next candidate for a PC port. Fan clamoring and the guarantee of sales numbered in the millions make Bloodborne a no-brainer. There’s rumbling about a PS5 port as well, and it would make sense for Sony to go all in and bring it to PC simultaneously.

Otherwise, take your pick – God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Uncharted 4, Days Gone, and hey, why not The Last of Us Part II. Nothing sells like a good controversy, and Naughty Dog’s latest effort bulges at the seams with the stuff.
